aw man i can’t do this
i guess if i HAD to choose it would probably be Open Your Eyes but even then i actually do really like a few of the tracks but overall it’s pretty ehhhhhhh as an album
Ahhh! This is such a complicated answer.
Well first I was really intrigued by his bass playing. Honestly, I had never heard anyone play a fretless bass guitar before let alone play it like Mick does. No matter what bass he plays he has that certain “rubbery” tone to his playing. It’s really unique and the more Japan I listened to, the more I was interested in playing bass. I actually got a bass in December 2011 for Christmas. I’m awful at it, honestly, but it’s fun to try to mimic Mick’s basslines and attempt to achieve a similar sound.
Anyway, a month after I discovered Japan and then Mick’s solo work, I read his autobiography. It absolutely broke my heart. Some parts were hilarious and other parts made me break down and cry. I had never felt so deeply connected to a person I had never met before. A man who died not even a year before I discovered his music. His reflections on his mental health were really meaningful to me during the darkest times of my life (Winter 2011 was hell, to put it simply). He was brutally honest about not only others but also himself. He talked about how emotionally attached he would get in relationships and how he feared others would leave him. He talked about his mistakes and faults and didn’t make excuses for himself. He accepted the past for what it was and took those experiences and learned from them.
I think he was a fantastic man and it makes me so sad that he’s gone now. He’s been gone for nearly 3 years. That’s incredible to me. He was relatively young and had 20-30+ years ahead of him. All cut short by brain cancer. What I’m grateful for, though, is the body of work he created during his time here on this earth and the lives he has influenced, mine included. I wish there was some way I could thank him for everything. He means the world to me.
um if i saw who dropped it i would give it back to them but tbh if it’s just a hundred dollar bill there’s no real way to turn it into the police or whomever without there being people pretending to be the original owner so i’d probably keep it, consider it my lucky day
